Industry poised to help India lead the world in the uptake of 5G-enabled mobile devices
Newly established mobile industry body, The Mobile Association (TMA), will organise a day-long summit on “Harmonising Growth of Mobile Devices in India” on Monday, 18th June 2018 at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
TMA represents over 200 mobile device brands and manufacturers from across the world who are currently catering to India’s 1 billion plus mobile subscribers. The Mobile Association is a non-profit industry body whose focus is on designing favourable policies through advocacy and empowering the mobile device ecosystem in building a smarter, well-secured technology framework for the ultimate benefit of society at large.
The Mobile Device Summit 2018 (https://themobileassociation.in/Events) will feature sessions on four important themes – Make in India Version 2.0, Preparing for the 5G Device Ecosystem, Testing Compliances in the New Regime and Mobile Device Security in the Connected World. Each session is designed as a panel discussion to do a ‘deep dive’ into the key themes impacting the mobile device ecosystem – resolving policy anomalies, simplifying and streamlining the approvals regime, rationalising tariffs and removing infrastructure bottlenecks.
The session “Make in India Version 2.0” is all about bringing together the who’s-who of the mobile industry and key decision makers from government agencies who have a say in shaping the important yet fragile mobile manufacturing industry.
“With the rise of cutting-edge digital technologies and innovations in the mobile sector ‘Make in India’ has become one of the largest start-up incubation experiments in the world. As a result, both the government and the industry are keenly aware of the need to enable a viable ecosystem and adopt best-in-class technology for the growth and proliferation of mobile devices in India,” said the young and vibrant President of The Mobile Association, Ms. Bhawna Kumari.
It is for the first time that such a large gathering of the mobile device industry is taking place under one roof, which not only brings together over 200 mobile device brands but also analysts, thought leaders, visionaries, government officials and agencies on a single platform.
“This ‘never experienced before’, exclusive event will see participation from start-up mobile device brands to global behemoths. Mobile brands with investments in India, and those who are planning to invest in India are expected to join this summit and learn what the government has to offer,” said Mr. Bhupesh Raseen, Chairman, Mobile Advisory Committee, TMA.
With Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) running trials as a precursor to commercial launch of 5G services, an equal emphasis needs to be placed on ensuring adequate availability of 5G-enabled smart mobile devices.
“Mobile device makers are committed to support enhancement of manufacturing and product development capabilities for ensuring world-class ‘5G-Ready, Made in India’ devices across all user segments,” summed up Bhawna.
Mr. N. Sivasailam, Special Secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India will be the Guest of Honour at the event and is slated to speak on the theme “Harmonising Growth of Mobile Devices in India.”
His Excellency Mr. Chutintorn Gongsakdi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand in India, Dr. John Joseph, Member – Budget, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and Mr. Arvind Gupta, CEO, MyGov will attend as Special Invitees.
